Traditional School Uniforms

For years, religious, prep and private schools almost exclusively used traditional school uniforms; however, the number of public schools using uniforms is on the rise. Today, the school uniform is more mainstream, and, in addition to uniform stores, many popular and trendy stores stock merchandise that can satisfy most requirements for the traditional school uniform.
Simple and easy shirts
Traditional school uniforms usually include the polo shirt and the oxford shirt. Younger students often wear polo shirts, as they are more informal and require less maintenance. Oxford shirts are ironed, as they wrinkle easily. Both sexes wear either type of shirt in either a long-sleeve or a short-sleeve style.
Traditional bottoms
Male students exclusively wear khaki pants. In some schools, female students are offered this option and pair it with their oxford or polo shirt. If the female student opts out of this option, she must wear a jumper or a knee-length skirt that has a unique plaid for the school.
Shoes and additional features
Students must wear brown or black leather or rubber shoes. If there are heels, they must be no more than half of an inch. Students are occasionally required to wear a knit or polyester vest and a tie.
Many schools believe that students who wear school uniforms perform better academically in school. Other advantages include increased social harmony, reduced behavioral issues and reduced costs of clothing students. Many public school systems are joining the ranks of religious, prep and private schools and are instituting a school uniform policy.
